Up Higher

How can we keep our brothers From dying alone in the street We’ve always had the answer But we’re locked in a battle with greed Fighting for no man’€™s land in our trench Cause a truce would be worse than the blood and the stench We can’€™t seem to recognize heaven from hell How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring If we can’€™t look past ourselves We light our own world on fire Then we’re surprised when it all starts to burn Striking the same matches again and again You think that we’€™d all start to learn Following fools who make us dig our own graves Falling for lies and expecting a change And we all wonder why it never ends well How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring If we can’€™t look past ourselves Sometimes it seems like kindness Is becoming a fading antique In a world that's consumed by fire We’d rather yell at each other than think It’€™s no surprise that’s were in such a mess Where this all leads is anyone’€™s guess We’ll never get by til we put all our fears on the shelf How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring If we can’t look past ourselves What if we all stood together Helping each other succeed Above all all else, trying to be good, where do you think that would lead Closing our eyes is not an excuse And yelling is only verbal abuse We’€™ll never get by until we put our fears on the shelf How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring How can we see what the future will bring If we can’€™t look past ourselves

I was all broke down when you pulled into my lane This stop and go traffic is driving me insane You brushed me off, pushed me back into the street And showed me I can stand on my own two feet Ahhhh can you feel the fire, can you feel the heat Ahhhh baby let’€™s jump right in, take the leap Ahhhh don’€™t want to kill the engine before we even start Baby, don’€™t slow down or you’€™ll ricochet right off of my heart Right off my heart, Right off my heart, Ricochet right off my heart My love life feels like I’€™m driving on ice Baby don’€™t you know I’ve been burned once or twice But I’m not afraid to give you a kiss Cause underneath all that naughty, I can see that you’€™re nice Ahhh wanna feel the fire, wanna feel the heat Ahhhh let’€™s jump right in, baby take the leap Ahhhh Don’€™t want to kill the feeling before we even start Baby, don’€™t slow down or you’€™ll ricochet right off of my heart Right off my heart, Right off my heart, Ricochet right off my heart With love there’€™s always some give and some take Worst thing you can do is slam on the brakes Keep your hands on the wheel and your foot on the gas And always remember just what’€™€™s at stake Lying in the dirt, calling your name Missed opportunities gone up in flames Another wrong turn, another fiery crash Don’€™t think I’m cut out to even play this game

Quarantine all by myself, barely any groceries left on my shelf I’m terrified to go outside, cause I don’t want to catch if from someone else Tried to make a mask from a cotton rag, feel safer with my head in a plastic bag Just doin’ my part to flatten the curve, until Dr. Fauci can find the cure Gotta stay six feet away Shelter in place Self isolate Dr. Fauci’s tryin’ to keep us all safe, That’s why Dr. Say Don’t touch your face (3x) Coronavirus kicked the world right in the ass, now we all wish we could get back to the past I’m stuck at home, livin’ in fear, and hoarding toilet paper like a psychopath They say a vaccine is just around the bend, but I’m starting to think that this will never end It’s like mother nature sent us all to our room, and now we gotta live our lives on Zoom Gotta stay six feet away Shelter in place Self isolate Dr. Fauci’s tryin’ to keep us all safe, That’s why Dr. Say Don’t touch your face (3x) Crazy to think how fast that life has changed, Looks like curbside pickup is here to stay No more movies, no more school I hope that someday, I’m immune Dr. Fauci help me, I’m going insane Tell me when we’ll get back to normal again When will it be ok for me to see my friends. People dying in the east and in the west, where are the ventilators, where are the tests Global pandemic and we’re stuck with Trump, Please Dr. Fauci get us out of this slump! Gotta stay six feet away Shelter in place Self isolate Dr. Fauci’s tryin’ to keep us all safe, That’s why Dr. Say Don’t touch your face (3x)

We marvel (enthralled by our) at society And hurtle through our lives Entrenched in our complacency It caught us by surprise Events that changed the world There wasn’t time to stop and think Things we couldn’t fathom They brought us to the brink Plunged into darkness Tomorrow never came We all became strangers Trying not to be afraid We fell asleep with our book And woke up on a brand new page We saw the change We saw the change We saw the change When the sun comes up What will remain ((x3)) Always pushing towards the boundaries Doing thing that don’t make sense We must live with our decisions And face the consequence We ally ourselves with power That hastens our decline We get yanked into into the future But we never go without a fight The story of humanity Is filled with things that we regret Despite our ingenuity We often lose our bet Change ensures survival And makes us who we are We fight against adversity And always forge ahead Out of the darkness With our souls still intact We all come together With the wind at our backs We’re writing our book And now we start a brand new page We saw the change We saw the change We saw the change When the sun comes up What will remain ((x3))

Get Off Your Ass Well we like to complain About this and that About the price of gas About who makes us mad When the day is done We just hide in our glass We don’t make a fuss we just let it all pass We don't make a fuss we just let it all pass ‘Cause it's easier to complain and to get off your ass When the going gets tough We just buy more stuff We heard to the mall And fill our lives with fluff When the day is done We just hide in our glass We don’t make a fuss we just let it all pass We don't make a fuss we just let it all pass ‘Cause it's easier to complain and to get off your ass When the guy at the top He lies like a rug Messes things up It really starts to bug But when the day is done We just hide in our glass We don’t make a fuss we just let it all pass We don't make a fuss we just let it all pass ‘Cause it's easier to complain and to get off your ass

about

My brand new album "Up Higher" features eight vocal and instrumental rock guitar songs, most of which were written and recorded during the past year.

"Up Higher" is titled to reflect the positive feel and messages I tried to evoke in the songs. It's also a play on words, since two of the songs were originally written as soundtracks to aerial photography videos I made while flying high above the mountains in my little yellow Cessna, as seen on the cover photo.

The three instrumentals all have a very upbeat inspiring feel to them, while the overall theme of the five vocal tracks generally reflects the mental and emotional rollercoaster we’ve all been dealing with during the past year, and the feelings we have whenever we emerge from a transformative time or event.

In fact, I would say that the entire album has been influenced by my own introspection, not only during the pandemic, but during the past few years, as well.

I’ve often struggled as songwriter, but after gaining confidence with a couple of my songs last year, I dedicated myself to crafting some new material. After many hours of writing, recording and mixing this winter and spring, the end result is a collection of the best songs I feel I’ve ever written. In addition, the process and timely nature of some of the pieces makes it the most personal music I’ve ever made.

Being a rock album, it’s filled with lots of juicy, crunchy electric guitars and catchy choruses, just the kind of music I love to listen to. I’m really proud of how it turned out, so I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for listening!
